Come to vigil at Chinese Embassy Dublin

Chinese Embassy DublinStand with persecuted Chinese Christians by taking part in a vigil on Wednesday 14 May organised by Church in Chains outside the Chinese Embassy in Dublin 4 at 12 noon.

Why is the vigil being held?

Persecution of Christians in China has increased dramatically in recent years. Children are banned from church, Bibles are restricted as is online access to the Bible, churches have been closed and church leaders have been imprisoned. Churches are being instructed to preach about the virtues of the Chinese Communist Party and President Xi Jinping’s philosophy.

What is the purpose of the vigil?

To draw public attention to the persecution of Christians in China and especially to the imprisonment of many pastors. The Chinese Embassy in Dublin has ignored two letters from Church in Chains requesting a meeting to present the Petition “END THE REPRESSION AND RELEASE CHINESE PASTORS” signed by over 5,000 people in Ireland in Autumn/Winter 2024. During the vigil, an attempt will be made to personally deliver the Petition to the Embassy.

The vigil will be photographed and videographed and the resulting photos and video will be shared on our website and on social media. Irish media organisations will be invited to attend the event.

Where is the vigil being held?

Outside the Chinese Embassy, 40 Ailesbury Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 (close to junction with Shrewsbury Road). If travelling  by car, you should be able to find paid parking (€2 per hour) close to the Embassy.

Public Transport options: DART (Sydney Parade station – about 10 minutes walk away). Buses 4, 7, 7a (Merrion Road – about 8 minutes walk away). Buses E1, E2, 39a (Donnybrook Church/Donnybrook Bus Garage – about 10 minutes walk away).

What will happen at the vigil ?

Participants will be asked to collect a placard (bearing a slogan or a photograph of a Christian prisoner in China) and to stand holding the placard outside the Chinese Embassy. There will be a short programme of speeches and prayers.

Church in Chains will attempt to hand deliver our Petition to the Embassy calling on the Chinese government to to revise all religious regulations to ensure they align with the right of all people in China to freedom of religion and for the release of all Christian prisoners.
