NIGERIA: Aid distribution in Takum, Taraba state

Handing over bucketOn 7 August, a team from Church in Chains’ partner organisation Stefanos Foundation travelled to the Takum Local Government Area in Taraba state to bring aid and comfort to Christians in the area who have been attacked by Muslim militants.

Since March 2022 over forty villages in the area have been attacked by Fulani militants. Houses, schools and churches have been burnt down, farmlands and farm produce destroyed and over a hundred people killed. In total over a thousand families have been affected by the attacks, many fleeing their villages to seek safety in surrounding towns and IDP (internally displaced person) camps.

The motto of Stefanos Foundation is “visiting the afflicted in their persecution”, and the recent distribution was supported by Church in Chains and Release International.

Stefanos team members arrived in Takum to find community leaders and IDPs already gathered to welcome them and receive the food and non-food relief materials they brought. The recipients of the aid expressed their gratitude for the visit and lamented that fact that neither the State nor the Federal Government has paid a visit to the community since the attacks.
